Comments from the winemaker
Marlene Rossman’s Review:

Stoller’s SV (senior vines) Pinot is lush, with flavors of cherry preserves, raspberry, black fig and Asian Five- Spice powder, and a bit of earth and mocha on the finish.

This is the type of Pinot Noir that Master Sommelier Madeline Triffon calls “sex in a glass.”

Wine Overview:

Stoller’s 2009 SV Estate Pinot Noir comes from a selection of their best vineyard blocks and barrels in the cellar. After fermentation, the wine was put into barrel to undergo malolactic fermentation and evolve for 10 months prior to bottling. The wine is carefully blended from those individual lots to articulate the 2009 vintage.

Harvest Notes:

Perfect weather through bloom contributed to a larger crop set which kept the vineyard crew busy thinning red and white grapes to Stoller’s targeted yields. A warm growing season and the above average crop yield conjured memories of past harvests dubbed as “fast and furious.”

Sugar levels elevated in mid-September with a mini heat wave, and there was concern of lagging flavor development. Warm, sunny days persisted into the end of September and there was a touch of drying on some younger blocks.

A temperate October permitted longer hang time to ensure phenolic ripeness and fully developed flavors. They hand picked blocks at their optimum flavor ripeness.
